Description: Paint


I have just recently exhibited in Cork Street, Mayfair where my work was very well received.  I work on large scale canvases in mixed media.  I predominately paint cityscapes that are dramatic, vibrant and colourful while others capture serenity and atmosphere. 

I try to experiment and combine new exciting techniques to create textured, tactile layered images. My materials range from inks, clothes dye, watercolours, food colouring and other water based washes.  Only with this whole range do I feel I am able to create a colour palette that translates the image to be represented.  I then layer and layer with more oil based mediums, mixing with various varnishes to create a translucent hue which adds depth.  I'm finding resins can be extremely versatile in their effects and I still what to explore this medium in new ways.  In the images I find inspiring, I try to depict movement and speed particularly in the busy night streets of Times Square, New York.  Other images, I try to find perspectives that are recognisable to most people but yet are differently angled to again, produce representations in a different way. 

I am very interested in water reflections and atmospheric sky's, elements that can never be static and are constantly in motion.  To summarise my style, I would say I am impressionistic and expressive while also retaining a sense of realism.  When viewed from enough distance, the scenes can be almost photo realistic but when viewed closer it is apparent that the uncontrollable course of the paint has left its abstract mark. Ultimately my aim is to produce aesthetically pleasing images that evokes the viewers emotions and sense of experience.
